As 2015 draws to an end I am reflecting back on the ups and downs and everything in between. It has been a year of change with many ups and downs, happiness and sadness, laughter and tears and many great “aha!” moments. I enjoyed every minute of it. The sadness and tears bring contrast to what is really wonderful in life.
This year I made 3 simple but very challenging changes. They changed the way I use my time, the way I see my life and more than anything else, the way I feel about myself!
3 Life Transformational Changes
- I became a morning person.
- I started doing meditation.
- I started blocking time for myself.
These are very simple but the difference they have made in my life is immeasurable.
I used to be a night person. And in fact, I had believed I would never be able to change the life style I had. Especially living in one of the busiest cities in the world. Tokyo, night time was the best time for me to be active. I used to stay up until 2 am, working on projects, thinking that I could focus more and be efficient in the middle of the night without distractions. In some way, I still think that is true but earlier this year, my body started telling me that I needed to change. I started having problems sleeping at night even though I was so tired. Many mornings, I was more tired then the night before. That was not a good feeling at all. So I decided to get up early. It sounds easy but it was not an easy thing to do for me after being a night person for so long!
I realized one thing; If I want to get up early I have to go to bed early. Even if I sleep the same length of time, this is much better and easier on my body than staying up late.
Meditation had always interested me but I had never be able to sit still longer than 10 minutes. My mind was too busy and I felt like I was wasting my time just sitting and doing nothing! I was so wrong!
In January 2015, my sister in law and business partner, Maria, and I attended a workshop led by Dr. Joe Dispenza. We learned and experienced the benefits of meditation at a level I never knew existed, and simply said, I am hooked. Even though, meditation may seem passive, the changes it has made in my life are immeasurable. I cannot imagine a life without meditation. If you are interested in starting meditation, I have made two simple meditation videos for morning and evening with affirmations. You can watch them here.
When I block time for myself and do things for myself, which can be as simple as doing yoga and/or meditation, I feel more calm and that benefits everyone in my life.
I will see you in 2016! Have a great holiday season.
