Align Your Mouth And Say Good Bye To A Lopsided Smile

I did not like to smile after I had a terrible car accident almost 10 years ago. Not because I was unhappy but because my face looked so out of alignment and my smile looked so unnatural. I was very uncomfortable when I spoke to people in person because I was afraid the other person would notice my lopsided, uneven smile. I did not like having my photo taken back then because I was losing my confidence. I never thought I would have a big smile again!

WHAT HABITS ARE CAUSING YOUR LOPSIDED SMILE

We move our mouth unconsciously throughout the day when we talk, eat, or even while we are sitting in front of the computer. Paying attention to the movement really helps in correcting and retraining the movement of the mouth area which, in the end, can result in it becoming more symmetrical.

  • HABIT #1: If you chew your food on one side of your mouth more than the other, you probably have an uneven smile!
  • HABIT #2: If you tend to talk on the phone using one ear, that side of your mouth is probably higher than the other.
  • HABIT #3: If you tend to sleep on one side, this will affect the shape of your mouth too.

Try to start changing these small habits because you will eventually see a huge change on your face and I guarantee, you will love it!

Sleeping on one side is often the cause of a crooked smile.

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR LOPSIDED SMILE TO A SYMMETRICAL ONE

After developing facial exercises to make the face more symmetrical and training people I realized sometimes it is hard for people to “feel” the muscle on the face or do the movement correctly. In this video, I will show you a simple but effective exercise to make your mouth area more symmetrical, i.e, less crooked. This one is so easy and everybody can do it correctly because of the tool you use!

Try it out and let me know how it worked for you! Looking forward to your impressions!

    1. Ok mam thanku I have one more query when I smile pouches will made at both the corners of my mouth… Is it possible to fix it? Also. I want to show you my pictures of lips so you can guide me properly. So can I send pictures on Instagram??

      1. Dear Kritika,

You can send your photos to Instagram or Facebook messenger so we can analyze your situation properly and see what we can do! 🙂

        Best,
        Fumiko

  1. I wonder if this will work for me. I had some facial nerve damage after having Bell’s palsy several years ago. I have since recovered but my smile is still a little droopy on my left side after all this time.

    1. Hi Carla, I had a Bell’s palsy a few years ago and also have some remaining tightness on the right side. While the exercises have not (yet) removed the problem entirely, (I have done it 8 weeks only), I have definitely seen changes quickly (as soon as a week) and my face feels overall much more balanced!

  2. Will this work for me – I am only 25 – never had an accident or anything but ehen I was young I used to chew from one side so maybe because of that, but I didn’t see my smile asymmetry until after my wisdom teeth removal. When I talk – the lower right teeth show and looks like are pulling downwards while the left side of my lower teeth don’t show. However, more gums show on left side and less gums show on right side when I smile. Asymmetry is more evident when I talk versus when I smile. Do you think this or your program will work and how long will it take to fix?

  3. I have an upper lip slanted up on the right side when I smile and a bit of gums are seen, while on the other side everything is perfect and no gums are seen at all. Will this really help? I am trying to control my mouth muscles, but when I simply want to smile naturally without thinking of it, I don’t like the upward sloping right side. 🙁 Is there something else I can do besides this exercise?

  4. Hello Fumiko I’ve been watching your videos and I think that they’re great!!
I need help!! If you can …
Does this help with asymmetrical LIPS?

  5. This is really helpful ..i started chewing my food the other side too much that it shifted the problem to that side unfortunately ..but that proves that it works ..so i will correct that even..thanks

Hi Abdul, our exercises are not mean to cause any pain or discomfort. In your case, I suggest lowering the intensity of which the exercise is performed but increasing the number of repetitions to attain optimal results.

      1. Hi I have a question what happens if u get results good ones but you stop doing it will they go back to how they were or do you think it will stay perment ? Thank you !

        1. Dear Monica,

I would say that only a regular, continuous practice can provide you with satisfying results. When it comes to the long lasting results, every person (or better said – every face) is different and, as such, reacts differently. Our Face Yogis share the opinion that when you start practicing and seeing the improvements instantly, you don’t want to risk stopping it but the opposite – you embrace Face Yoga as a lifestyle. 🙂

Hope this answered your question. 🙂

          Best wishes,
          Fumiko

  6. Dear Fumiko,
I’m applying this exercise but I have a question. The side that my mouth is higher than the other has bigger cheeks. I think the exercises that I would do for my cheek could activate my smile muscles in this side and could make my mouth side more up than the other. What do you think about it? What could I do as exercise when I have bigger cheeks and higher mouth in same side?

  7. brooke yellowhammer

the pencil sits higher on one side. I also try to chew my food on the side that’s assymetrical to get the muscle strong

  8. I developed a crooked smile from broken teeth that forced me to chew on one side for two years, and now I have very bad TMJ because of it while my jaw slants on the side I chew. Lately,l started chewing on a ribbon on my broken side to balance it out since food is extremely painful. I’m hoping to bring balance back to my face. This demonstration brought me some hope.

  9. Hello, pls help me if there is any yoga to bring ones jaw in shape, i mean my upper jaw is a bit in the shape of coming out…so the portion under my nose & above lips does not looks good…pls help.

  10. When you say to position the pen just after the canine teeth do you mean the upper AND LOWER sets of canines or just the upper set?
I ask because when i close my mouth on the pen I try to keep the pen just after my lower canines as well as the upper canines and it feels very strange – tight and strained….
    Many thanks!

  11. I have asymmetrical cheeks. Does these exercise work on cheeks as well? Or do you have another exercise, that can make the cheeks more symmetrical?

  12. Thanks Fumiko!
I am 60 and the ends of my mouth are drooping and I look always unhappy, though I am very happy. Do you have exercise for that?
