How To Apply Facial Moisturizer

There is actually an art to applying facial moisturizer.  When you put on facial moisturizer it makes a difference how you do it.  Just remember that no matter what the marketing says there is no magic moisturizer that is going to turn the clock back 20 years.  I recently made a quick video for Gerri on Facebook on how to apply moisturizer and now I want to share it with you.

The “Dont’s”:

1 – Don’t rub the moisturizer on your skin.  The skin’s surface is delicate and you do not want to damage it.

2 – Don’t slide your fingers downward on your skin.

The “Do’s”:

1 – Place your moisturizer on your palms and gently rub it to warm it up to body temperature.  It makes it easier for the skin to absorb.

2 – Place the moisturizer on the forehead, cheeks and chin.  Gently push the moisturizer in, about 5 times in one area and then move to another area.

3 – Place the remaining moisturizer on delicate areas around the eyes and mouth.  Very gently push the moisturizer in.

After you try this make sure and leave your comments and ask questions below.

  1. I’ve recently started applying my moisturizer by patting it gently. Sometimes I fall back to old habits, but catch myself. How about the neck? Pat or gentle upward movement?
    Loving your tips and course!
    Thank you
    Stephanie

  2. I was wonder how do I apply serum same like moisturizer I love that you give instruction how to apply moisturizer

    1. Hi Sergey,

Thank you for your question! To apply a serum, you should use the same instructions as for the moisturizer. 🙂

      Best,

  3. Hello Fumiko, I am very excited to be doing the program. What is your opinion about the use of Clarisonic to clean the face?

  4. Hi Fumiko!

I have stopped using moisturizer and other face creams for about a year now because I got scared of the many chemicals that I read that do more harm than good. I use Almond and Vitamin A Oils for my face which I observe to be ok for my face, but there are times that I can see my face dry and wrinkly. Do you think using oil is ok? I’m now doing your way of putting moisturizer-pushing the oil instead of rubbing it on my face. Thank you for that advise.

Hi Judith, this really depends on personal preference. I personally don’t like to use pure oil on my face since my face can become dry.

  5. I really enjoyed looking at your video, you have a positive energy and the method looks like a great one. I’m going to try it from tomorrow onwards! Thanks so much!

  8. Dear Fumiko
I have been thinking about how to better apply lotions on face without dragging the skin and have recently conscientiously been doing it in upward motion strokes only. Your tip come in timely, I shall definitely try it, thanks
