Minimize Scarring, Fine Lines And Dark Spots With Eggs

Do you eat eggs? If so, do not throw away the eggshells next time. Even if you don’t eat eggs, this information is still worth reading. Did you know that the egg membrane in an eggshell can be used for your skin to, for example, minimize scarring or reduce dark spots? I am not talking about the egg yolk but the thin layer between the egg white and the eggshell. The eggshell’s main component is protein fibers and they are made up of more than 20 different amino acids and quite close to that of human tissues including skin. It also contains collagen.

As many of you know already, skin loses elasticity and firmness partly due to the breakdown of collagen. Egg white is almost 100% absorbent by the body and has a complete amino acid profile. Does this sound good? According to clinical studies, an eggshell membrane is a possible new natural therapeutic for joint and connective tissue disorders. If you use the shell membrane of an egg for hangnails, cuts, or scratches, it can reduce the healing time and minimize the scarring. Today I will show you how you can use the membrane lining in an eggshell to nourish your skin, reduce dark spots and minimize fine lines.

How To Use The Eggshell Membrane On Your Face (And Get The Most Benefits Out Of It)

Eggshell membrane lining is best used when fresh and wet. Simply crack an egg, gently peel the lining, and put it on your face, with the wet side on your skin so that you can get the benefit of egg white. If you do not have time, you can save the eggshell in the fridge. When you are ready to use it, just wet the eggshell and peel the membrane. Leave it on the skin for 15 to 20 minutes and peel it gently. If you have sensitive skin, wet the membrane with a wet finger and peel it gently.

Tips:• If you are allergic to eggs, do not try.
• If you are not sure, try a patch test by putting a small piece of membrane on your inner arm for 24 hours. If there is no reaction, you are good to go. Next time you crack eggs, do not throw them away!

  1. How do you get the membrane off the eggshell? How do you break the eggshell so that the membrane is in big enough pieces to be able to use it?

Hi! You can break the eggshell like you usually do when you cook, and peel off the membrane carefully. If piece is not big enough, you can put several pieces to cover the area you want. Hope this helps.

    1. Hi Patricia! The egg membrane is great for acne scarring. In addition, you can also apply the yogurt face mask for acne prone skin (also in our blog)! 😉

    1. Hi! We have not tried eggs for drooping eyelids, but we know they work great for dark spots. We’d advise being cautious getting anything close to your eyes as this is a very sensitive area of the face. Check out our blog on how to treat droopy eyelids.

    1. Hi Haydee! As always we recommend listening to your face and how your skin feels. To start, try 1-2 times a week. Since this is a natural product, it shouldn’t cause any irritations or sensitivities 🙂
