How To Make Your Face More Symmetrical Naturally – Top Tips

Everyone’s bodies, just like their organs, are naturally asymmetrical — meaning that no one has a perfectly symmetrical face! Facial asymmetry is completely normal but is more visible and prevalent for some over others.

“How to get a symmetrical face naturally” is one of our most asked questions and sought-after solutions to regaining confidence. And while we have natural solutions to help you obtain a symmetrical face, it’s also important to note that facial asymmetry can be prevented!

Below, find the top tips on how to locate the reasons for facial asymmetry, as well as on how to work on them to get a symmetrical face.

TIP 1: FIND THE CAUSE OF FACIAL ASYMMETRY

Most importantly, you need to determine the reason for facial asymmetry so that you can change the habit and prevent asymmetry from deepening. Some of the habits that cause facial asymmetry are frowning while reading, chewing on one side, sleeping on one side, etc.

Sometimes facial asymmetry can also be caused by muscular imbalances, illness, injuries, and more. So evaluating your posture and habits, and staying in awareness of them are where you need to start to regain facial symmetry!

TIP 2: FIX YOUR POSTURE

Your face and your body are connected! In order to get the maximum benefit from Face Yoga and achieve facial symmetry, you first need to have a good posture.

Looking down and tilting your head cause asymmetry and double chin

As we age, rounded shoulders and a rounded spine may naturally start to occur, but some of our posture habits are naturally induced by our lifestyle. For example, always wearing a shoulder bag on the same side, or always crossing your legs the same way, tilting your head as you talk on the phone, or brushing your teeth with the same hand, etc.

When our posture gets off-center, our face will also get off-center. To get your face to look more symmetrical, you need to use your body and your face equally. Staying aware of your posture can help cultivate good habits that will also help obtain facial symmetry, as well as prevent asymmetry from happening in the first place.

TIP 3: PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DAILY HABITS

Your habits are either preventing or causing asymmetry. It doesn’t happen overnight, but repeated patterns can either serve you or work against you with time.

Do you always…

Sleep on the same side of your face?
Chew on the same side of your mouth?
Carry your bag on the same shoulder?
Brush your teeth with the same hand?
Cross your legs on the same side?

If you are wondering how to get a symmetrical face, definitely avoid sleeping on one side of your face.

While seemingly simple or even obsolete, these habits have a significant impact on your symmetry over time. For example, habitually chewing on one side of the mouth can wear down that side due to overuse or develop more muscle on that side over the other — both of which result in facial asymmetry.

In cultivating awareness around these habits and consciously choosing to integrate this newfound awareness in how you do things, you’re also preventing asymmetry from forming in the first place.

TIP 4: DO FACE YOGA EXERCISES FOR MORE SYMMETRICAL FACE

My Story On Obtaining Facial Symmetry

Post a nearly fatal accident was when my face was first left noticeably asymmetrical. And it was through Face Yoga that I regained symmetry 100% naturally!

But even after doing facial exercises for a long time, one day I saw asymmetry in the mouth area. This is important to mention because sometimes, we get too comfortable in our practice and lose initial awareness. And naturally, as we age, our faces will continue to change, making it important to meet yourself where you’re at.

When I noticed facial asymmetry for the second time, the corners of my mouth and my nasolabial folds weren’t even, and my face had deeper and shorter lines on one side. I decided to create a new pose that would address ALL of it knowing that Face Yoga can help with getting my symmetry back!

So what if you could…

With just ONE, simple, easy to do, and effective Pose to get facial symmetry naturally?

Getting a symmetrical face has never been easier!

How To Get A Symmetrical Face With Facial Exercises?

When it comes to doing Face Yoga Exercises for symmetry, you need to understand which muscles are stronger, and which ones are weaker. This will determine HOW you actually do the poses and the differences you need to address for the weaker and the stronger side.

The weaker, or even sleeping, muscles are the ones that aren’t doing what they should. There are also the muscles that are doing the movements they shouldn’t be doing.

In general, you want to relax the overpowering and stronger muscles, and activate the weaker muscles.

The weaker muscles are referred to the droopy eyelid, or crooked mouth corner, for example. It’s typically the side you wish to address. Mostly the dominant side is the one that’s more open, stronger, but also tense. The lazier side appears droopy. However, when the dominant side gets tired, it can also appear droopy, even though the muscles are the stronger ones.

Understanding this difference will help you retrain the muscles to do the movements they are made for! Isolating and retraining them will also help the brain activate the muscles properly.

For best practices, the stronger side needs more relaxation such as tapping, massage, acupressure, and very gentle stretches. Over time this will train the stronger side to work less.

The weaker side needs more activation, and if needed, more tightening and toning if the weaker muscles need more volume to equal out asymmetry. Over time, this will train the muscle to do the work it should be doing!

  1. Hi Fumiko,
Thank you so much for all your great videos and mindset!
Thanks to FYM, I finally identified why my face generally looks terrible and so skew on pictures! I have a very boney face with significant asymmetry ( the right profile is much worse than the left one): the mouth, the cheeks but even my eyes!
The right eye looks much duller than the other one, I think that’s because the under-eye area is wider and dull. How do you think I could improve that? is it by building more cheeks or do you have any other idea?

  7. Hi, could you do a video on jaw symmetry? The right side of my jaw is stronger and bigger than the left side. I don’t know if this has to do with the muscles being underdeveloped on one side or if it has to do with my teeth or something, but your help would be appreciated, thanks!!

  8. Hi I have asymmetrical with cross-bite aka as under-bite does faceyoga can get rid of underbite. please reply Mam.

  9. Hi, the left side of my face is underdeveloped, the jawlines are not well defined, will this pose help me fix that?

  10. Hi my face is asymmetrical and i want to get symmetrical face naturally. Is there any way by which I can get symmetrical face naturally in 30 days

  11. Hi Fumiko,
How I appreciate your videos and your good energy.. thankyou !
My face is really asymmetrical particularly the lower face and especially the mouth. I’ve just started the exercise where you curl your lips over your teeth. My problem is that I’ve an overbite which has led over the years (I’m 52) to cause my top lip to become long and untoned.
Two questions really : Would curling the top lip stretch this even more?
    and
Do you have some exercises that would tone the top lip up.

Oh and one more question doing these exercises when would I expect to see some change?
    Many thanks! Terrie

  14. Dear Fumiko,
Thanks for your contribution to us, I appreciate you.
I want to ask something about face asymmetry it’s same with the Nou Xyooj’s question and I’ve found so many similar questions when I was searching on your videos and other sources in internet. Asymmetry apears on mouth area and cheeks. One side’s cheek is bigger and also the bigger side’s mouth is higher than the other. I try to understand how mouth and cheek muscles are working and how they are working especially when we smile. However I could not find the true exercise and I believe, you may find a solution for this problem.
I hope you’ll see my question, thanks a lot.

  15. Hi, I have an asymmetrical face where the right side seems to be a bit chubby while the other side isn’t (on my left cheek, I can clearly see my dipple, but my right cheek, I can barely see my dipple). With this being said, my lip is also uneven due to to this asymmetrical face causing me to have a slanted smile. Will this exercise help my face to be more symmetrical? Or if there’s any other exercise that would help, because I learned that our face bones stops growing when we are an adult. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! 🙂

  16. I really believe that yoga is better 100 times than surgery in shaping our face. so I want to ask you, I have gummy smile , upper lip is a little bite is raised and i can’t smile cuz of my bad smile……is there any yoga exercise that may help me to low my upper lip
please i really need your help

  17. I am loving your videos! I wanted to make a request, though: could you make a video of discreet facial exercises? If we are in the subway or waiting at a supermarket’s line, for example.

      1. Hey Fumiko love your tips, just wanted to know if you could make a video on how to make your eyes and nose symmetrical. Thanks!
