How to Get Rid of Nasolabial Folds With Face Yoga

Have you ever wondered how to get rid of nasolabial folds in your upper mouth area? In this video, Fumiko teaches you how to do the puffer fish face, which is a great Face Yoga exercise for reducing the so-called smile and laugh lines. These lines get longer and deeper as we age and can eventually reach the bottom of our face.

Here are the step-by-step instructions for this exercise:
Step 1
–  Fill up your mouth with air and close your mouth tight and push the air towards your lips
Step 2 – Move the air to the right
Step 3 – Move the air to the left
Step 4 – Move the air to the upper mouth
Step 5 – Move the air to the lower mouth
During each step hold the air for 5 seconds. You should feel the resistance on the cheeks, upper mouth and lower mouth.

You can watch the whole exercise in the video below!

Try it out and let me know how it worked for you! I am looking forward to seeing my Face Yogis one at a time getting rid of those stubborn nasolabial folds!

  1. Hi Fumiko! Thanks for this exercise- I would like to ask how many times a day we should practice it in order to abtain some results…

    1. Fumiko Takatsu

Hi Michela, most practitioners report results within a few weeks of daily practice 🙂

  2. Hi Fumiko, Thank you so much for bringing this to the rest of us! I am very grateful as I was considering plastic surgery for lack of an alternative to my “smiling” lines (which make me sad! Lol). Im going to start these exercises today and I know nothing is instant, but how long does it take to make a NOTICEABLE difference in the severity of your smiling lines? 8 wks? 12? 6 mos? I just want to have a way to measure my progress. Thank you!

  3. Hii…You are great Fumiko! I hv your ebook and try Face Yoga
soon. I have a question, though.I am 26 yrs old, I’m not thin but my face is very small. forehead and chin is 2 small.Thats y i look like a child. Will FYM make my face look big in size?

  4. Nosolabial folds were my myscourge for about 20 years. Now I am happy I can youst with it. I look younger and going to do it every day. Thank you Fumiko. You wonderful!

  5. I was doing this exercise, but ahve noticed that when i puff one side the other gets wrinkled. I am afraid this will aggrevate the lines and add on the upper lip small lines as well. Kindly elaborate dear Fumiko, so i do it correctly. Best wishes, Iva

  6. i have been doing this exercise for several weeks, but i don’t see noticeable effect unortunately. I’m only 21 years old, but i look older, look like i’m always tired and sad – because of nasolabial folds (which are visible near nose) and baggy eyes with dark circles around them. i hoped that face yoga would help me, but now i’m in doubt again. I just want to look my age… not like a thirty-years old woman((( can you help me?

  7. Hi Fumiko,

How do you do these face excersize without getting a lot lines on the upperlip, i can’t get it done without.

    1. Try to put your finger(s) on the upper lip until you can do without it! Once you get the pose, you can do the pose without the finer! Hope this helps 🙂

  8. Hi, I just found out about face yoga and I’m so excited! I’ve been doing your workouts for the last few days and am enjoying them but I have a question.
I’m 33 and I don’t think I have aged more than is normal for someone my age. But my face shape is such that I’ve had deep nasolabial folds since I was a kid. I’ve never been happy about this. I’m hoping that face yoga will help me, but I’m skeptical because I don’t think it was designed with someone like me in mind. Do you think it will help?
    Thanks!

  9. You are amazing Fumiko! I’m going to buy your book and try Face Yoga soon. I have a question, though. I’m naturally thin and my face doesn’t have a lot of fats. Will face yoga make my face thinner?

    1. Vivi, Thank you for your comment! There are some poses to make your cheeks lift up and that makes them looks rounder. As a result, you will look younger! I tend to lose weight from my face and I do the cheek lifting poses so that I do not look too thin.
