Top 5 Benefits Of Drinking Hot Water

I have been drinking hot water since I started the Face Yoga Method program back in Japan in 2006. I used to love to drink wines and sake when I was in Japan, because I had a pretty strong alcohol tolerance and I bragged about it when I was younger. However, when I started doing magazine interviews and TV shows, I started drinking hot water at business dinners. I did not want to be rude and not participate in drinking (it is a kind of unwritten Japanese business rule).

Very quickly I started seeing positive changes in my mind and body.

  • I felt so much more relaxed.
  • I was less tired.
  • I saw less puffiness in my face and less eye bags.
  • My skin started looking better.
  • My mood became more positive.

Now I am hooked. I drink a cup of hot water first thing in the morning and right before going to bed. I also drink hot water throughout the day. I even order a cup of hot water whenever I am at a restaurant!

As many of you know, water flushes the toxins out of your system and improves your skin condition. You may already drink plenty of water every day, but I think temperature matters for young-looking skin. It is good for your face and body, and ultimately for your spirit.

Let me explain. Almost everybody washes dishes, right? What is the secret of doing dishes when you have greasy plates? Use a lot of dish soap? Yeah, that may work but it is so bad for the environment and can be expensive. Soak it overnight? Well, then what? Just put it in the dishwasher? Sure, that will do it, but even then the dishwasher uses hot water, not cold water to get rid of waste, right? The same thing applies to your face and body!

The Many Benefits Of Drinking Hot Water

1. Cleanse And Purify The Body, Skin And Mind

Imagine your body. When you get up in the morning, your stomach is pretty hungry. The food you had last night should be digested by morning. Drink a cup of hot water on an empty stomach. Literally, the word “breakfast” means “breaking” the “fast” from the night before. When the stomach and body have been in fast mode for some time, they tend to take in and absorb everything that comes in. Before you take anything in, clean it. A clean system means clean skin.

Another good time to drink hot water is right before going to bed. Some people do not want to drink water right before bedtime because they worry about going to the bathroom in the middle of the night and interrupting sleep. My father was like that. Surprisingly, hot water does not necessarily make my father go to the bathroom. Drinking a cup of hot water before going to bed is like running a full body dishwasher while you are sleeping. The result? Clean system! When your system is clean, it shows on your skin. When you system is clean and your skin looks good, you feel great! Try it, see how it goes and let me know how you feel.

2. Improve Bowel Movements And Cures Constipation

Constipation is one of the internal causes of skin problems. When I look at people’s faces, I can tell a lot about the person’s eating habits. Constipation is one of the worst enemies if you want to get good skin and feel good.

I am sure you have experienced constipation, especially while you are traveling. How does it make you feel? Not good, right? One of main causes of this quite common stomach problem, especially among women, is due to water scarcity in the body. The stool deposits in the intestines and that reduces the bowel movement.

Cure? Have a glass of hot water on an empty stomach in the morning. It improves bowel movements and cures constipation. Hot water breaks down food particles and passes them out through intestines and the result? You feel good!

3. Promotes Healthy Weight Loss

If you want to lose weight, stay away from soda and alcohol (especially beer). Many dieticians would recommend you drink a glass of hot water with lemon and honey every day to lose weight. Hot water can really help you in shedding extra pounds without changing your diet at all! Hot water cleanses your system, breaks down fat deposits from the body and as a result, helps in weight loss.

If you want to see the results, start having a cup of hot water with either lemon before every meal instead of cocktail, beer or wine. Lemon has pectin fiber that controls food craving too. You can add honey if you want to have some sweetness. And after every meal, have a cup of hot water with a slice of lemon. See how your appetite changes.

4. Increases Blood Circulation

Water increases vitality, energy levels, concentration and stamina and it also results in less susceptibility to exhaustion and anxiety. Water helps energy flow in the body, and hot water can help even more. Hot water relaxes your body and increases blood circulation which results in better skin complexion. The warmth of hot water makes us feel relaxed and it is so important to relax throughout the day and especially right before going to bed. Your body needs rest and so does your spirit! The steam that comes from hot water makes a great “mini face steam” treatment before bedtime if you use a big cup to drink hot water. Try adding some mint to help with digestion.

5. Increases Energy Level

How about ice cold water? It tastes so good when the weather gets hotter. But if you want to have youthful looking skin, drink hot water. Cold water is too shocking for the body and it disrupts the energy flow in the body. You don’t give ice cold water to your pet (you can, but probably your pet would not like it) or water your plants and flowers with ice cold water.

In Japan, many people believe that drinking hot water on a hot day actually reduces internal body heat and gives you more energy since the body does not need to generate energy to warm the water to body temperature. On the other hand, when drinking ice cold water the body has to generate heat to warm up the water to body temperature. As a result, you feel hotter and more tired.

Have you ever had the experience of drinking ice cold water on a hot summer day and then feeling tired? Next time you want to drink ice cold water, just try hot water and see how you feel and how your body feels. You will be amazed. When you have alcohol, make sure you drink hot water, especially before going to bed! Your kidney needs extra attention after the drinking session.

  1. So I just started drinking hot water and I read your explanation on it. You talked about cinnamon, ginger and a few other things being good for you. So I’ve been adding cinnamon to my hot water. Is that okay? Thanks

  2. 2 weeks now on hot water i feel and know its working .. always had trouble with bowels and urination thats changing and im sleeping better.
    I used to have A LOT of ice now i dont have it.
    I love the taste of the hot water..weird i know

I used to star my morning with a cup of coffee, and I think that helped me to go to the bathroom, since one year ago I read about start the morning with a cup of hot water with one teaspoon of honey and the benefits. I get rid out of coffe and star drink the water with honey and I feel so much better and even I go to the bathroom much better.

  4. I’ve been drinking warm to hot water since past 6 months and I have lost weight even though I’m not exercising or dieting. These are some of the changes I feel lately just want to know if they are due to the warm/hot water. My mouth gets quite dry, I sweat after drinking hot water & lately I have started to feel quite hungry?

  5. I had pain which I couldn’t explain if it was stomach pain or kidney pain, then I was told to drink hot water of which I did. Right now I feel no pain and my skin is getting better every day because I make sure I finish 1.5litres of hot water before I eat anything at mornings.

  8. Well, I don`t understand what is the point of waters temperature- in your stomach water gets to fast body temperature- so does cold water too. In my opinion it does not matter if you drink hot, luke or cold water. The idea of dishwasher doesn´t work with homothermic human body.

I just started drinking hot water only days ago…so this is quite the coincidence to receive an email from your site regarding “Drinking hot water”…..I’ve always wanted to drink more water, but don’t normally like the taste of plain cold water…so I thought I’d try drinking it hot…and there’s a huge difference for me…the hot water goes down better. I finish the cup before I know it. Also….in the office I worked at years ago, there was a Chinese lady that would drink plain hot water. I’d never seen this before in my life. She also had absolutely flawless skin…firm and not a line, age spot or wrinkle on her face, she was also 58 years old! Had I known that drinking hot water had anything to do with it..I would have started to drink up!
