Effective D.I.Y. Skin Care Recipes To Try Today!

Quality does not always mean store-bought and steep prices. In fact, our homemade D.I.Y. skin care recipes can be a great sustainable, accessible, and effective addition to your Skin Care Routine!

Homemade ingredients have essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that are extremely beneficial and nourishing for your skin, without the hefty price tag!

Easy Homemade Face Mask #1:  Greek Yogurt

Face masks are the talk of the town and with good reason! Face masks can serve a variety of benefits to your skin, like hydration, plumping,  and leave you and you and your skin feeling fresh and rejuvenated. What’s even better is you can do a D.I.Y face mask with one powerful ingredient!

Our go-to face mask is the greek yogurt face mask!

  • Loaded with essential probiotics
  • Antibacterial
  • Gently exfoliates

This powerful and versatile ingredient makes an amazing addition to your weekly routine and is also a great mask for acne-prone skin.

The beauty of this mask is that you can add or subtract ingredients to suit your needs. Here are some of our favorite additions:

For acne-prone skin — add honey!
For sun-damaged skin — add matcha green tea powder!
For dull, tired skin — add cinnamon or turmeric powder!

Easy Homemade Face Mask #2: Egg White Membrane

Our next favorite at-home Do It Yourself face mask is egg white membrane.

Egg Membrane is a powerful ingredient to minimize scarring, fine lines, and dark spots. If you weren’t aware of this before, your breakfast will never look the same again! The egg membrane is not the yolk, but the thin white layer found on the inside of the shell.

Three eggs in a white bowl.

The eggshell’s main components are protein fibers and they are made up of more than 20 different amino acids and quite close to that of human tissues including skin. Egg membrane also contains collagen — a necessary protein for perky skin.

According to clinical studies, an eggshell membrane is a possible new natural therapeutic for joint and connective tissue disorders. If you use the shell membrane of an egg for hangnails, cuts, or scratches, it can reduce the healing time and minimize the scarring. For your skin, it can do wonders for scarring, fine lines, and dark spots!

How to do an egg white membrane mask:
The best way to do this mask is when the membrane is fresh and wet.
1) Gently peel the membrane off the shell and apply directly to the skin, especially areas of concern.
2) Leave it on for 15-20 minutes or before the membrane dries out completely
3) Rinse with cool water

For a vegan option, use ground flax seeds mixed with water and apply to the skin!

Best At-Home Neck and Hand Cream: Fumiko’s Beeswax Body Cream

If you have the time and patience, you can make your own quality face cream right at home! As your skin absorbs 60% of what you put on it, this is a great option for those who aren’t already using quality and natural skin care, to ensure that what your skin is absorbing is natural and safe.

Beeswax serves as a fantastic ingredient, enabling your skin to breathe freely and providing a soothing effect for irritated skin. Its versatility makes it an excellent choice for face, body, or hand cream!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1/3 cup of Beeswax: You can choose between white and yellow beeswax. While white beeswax is filtered or bleached, I recommend using the yellow one for its minimal processing and sweet, mild honey aroma.
  • 1 cup of natural oil: Opt for grape-seed oil, sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil, as they are non-comedogenic and get easily absorbed by the skin. Olive and avocado oil work well too. Alternatively, you can use pure cocoa butter, which melts into oil, gets absorbed effectively, and leaves no greasy residue.
  • A few drops of Vitamin E oil: Prefer natural vitamin E listed as d-alpha tocopherol, d-alpha tocopheryl acetate, or d-alpha tocopheryl succinate. Avoid synthetic forms (labeled with a dl- prefix). Vitamin E acts as a fat-soluble antioxidant, naturally extending the shelf life of the cream.

Optional:

  • A few drops of Evening Primrose oil: This oil moisturizes and soothes the skin, enhancing its elasticity and texture.
  • A few drops of your preferred essential oils: Choose essential oils that cater to your specific skin needs. Lavender, geranium, lemongrass, and jasmine are some of my favorite combinations. However, for face cream, it’s best to omit essential oils.

For a cream with a subtle honey aroma, you can skip adding essential oils altogether. Feel free to customize the recipe according to your preferences!

Before applying essential oils, always perform a patch test on the inside of your arm for 24 hours to prevent any potential skin reactions. Essential oils are not recommended for face cream.

Note: To adjust the cream’s consistency, you can modify the ratio of oil to beeswax. For a softer cream, use more oil and less beeswax. For a firmer cream, use more beeswax and less oil.

  1. Hello Fumiko! Love the egg membrane idea, how often should I do it? Also, with the egg white treatment, should I do that everyday?
    Best,
    Nancy

  2. Hola Fumuko, yo compré uno de tus programas, pero nunca lo volví a encontrar en mi correo. Podrías enviarlo de nuevo? Gracias!
