The mouth area shows your age, but it also shows your emotions. When the corners of your mouth are down, which can naturally occur as you age, you look unhappy or sad.
The Face Yoga Method is the mouth’s best ally because it can improve your smile, get rid of marionette lines and nasolabial folds, naturally! In addition, your smile is dependent on many different muscles. Learning to isolate and use these muscles will result in your desired smile, and teach you how to use which muscle when.
Training your mouth area not only makes you look younger and happier, but also gives you a natural, happy smile, which makes you more confident and at ease, and sends good energy to those around you.
How can you tone your mouth and cheek area through Face Yoga? We outline some of our most common exercises for the most common needs below!
BEST EXERCISES FOR MARIONETTE LINES
1: Smile Lifter
One of the more common concerns we hear in our Face Yoga Community is the droopy corners on the sides of the mouth. The mouth can naturally droop as you age, and sometimes common Aging Habits contribute to this as well.
One misconception is that the cheek muscles and mouth muscles are separate from each other, when in fact understanding one will allow you to understand the other as they work in unison with each other.
To naturally lift up your cheeks and the corners of your mouth, we’ll start with the Smile Lifter
(it also tones your neck)!
- Move your jaw slightly forward and curl your lower lips over your teeth.
- Smile, making sure both corners of your mouth are at the same level.
- Lift up the chin slightly.
- Push your tongue up to the roof of your mouth.
- Keep pushing hard for 10 seconds, then relax.
- Repeat 2 more times.
By pushing your tongue up to the roof of your mouth, the muscles around your mouth and cheeks contract more and tone your neck area.

2: The Big O
The most versatile Face Yoga Method is definitely The Big O! It smooths out nasolabial fold lines and increases blood circulation throughout your entire face and neck area.
- Open your mouth by dropping your jaw and make an “O” shape with your mouth by pressing your upper lip area against your teeth.
- Feel the smoothening sensation under your eye area.
- Hold this for 10 seconds.
- Repeat 2 more sets.
Don’t tighten your jaw or chin area. Instead, when you open your mouth, drop your jaw.

3: The 3-IN-1 Super Cheek
To make your cheeks fuller, lift them up, and reduce smile lines — The 3-IN-1 Super Cheek is your go-to.
- Move your chin slightly forward and place your lower lip over your upper lip. Open your eyes wide without wrinkling your forehead.
- Lift up the corners of your mouth. Feel the tension on your cheeks.
- Place your thumbs under your chin and your middle and index fingers on your cheeks.
- Slowly move your index and middle fingers toward your ears. You should see fewer nasolabial fold lines. Hold this Pose for 10 seconds.
- Come out of the Pose, do The Big O, to smooth out your mouth area, and relax.
- Repeat 2 more sets.
The best spot to place your index and middle fingers is where you see the fewest smile lines.

UP-LEVELLING YOUR RESULTS
Now that you know that the muscles in your face are intricately connected, you understand the importance of working ALL of them. Even if you feel something doesn’t pertain to your specific needs, strengthening each muscle of the area you’d like to tone is the secret to extraordinary results and, as you may have already noticed, to getting rid of marionette lines, among others!
