At Face Yoga Method we are always searching for natural anti-aging strategies. In addition to Face Yoga we love sunblock, great skin care, pillows that prevent wrinkles and so much more and now we are adding derma rollers to the list. A derma roller is also known as a microneedle roller because they are handheld facial rollers with hundreds of tiny needles.
At first description, this may sound like a handheld torture device but I promise you it isn’t. We have tried multiple microneedle rollers and some of them are a bit prickly but this one is just lovely. So what is it for and how to use it?
How Does The Derma Roller Work?
The derma roller works similar to the way that lasers work, except it is mechanical and not heat and light. According to some studies and anecdotal clinical claims, microneedling can help minimize scarring, decrease wrinkles, and reverse photoaging. It has been called the poor man’s laser. We prefer calling it the smart women’s secret weapon. When the derma roller is used it causes slight trauma to the skin. Nothing to be worried about but enough to stimulate collagen growth. Collagen is that beautiful protein that keeps the skin looking so young and beautiful.
We all start to lose it as we age so why not help ourselves produce some more? There are in-office doctor treatments that are a more intense version of this at-home procedure but they can be quite pricey at an average of $500 a visit. We are seeing results of more radiant and softer skin with this one so we are sticking to it. Take a look here to see how the derma roller is used.
Thanks for sharing the wonderful tips to use dermaroller.
Is it ok to use the derma roller after steaming your face & an exfoliating mask ?
Hi Sharon! You can use use the derma roller after steaming your face but not after exfoliating.
What do you recommend after using the roller?
Should I do in the morning? But I kind of hesitate go outside to expose my skin to UV.
I supposed using in the roving before going to bed?
Thank you
Hi Hideyo! We recommend applying a serum or moisturizer, right after using the roller the pores are open to absorb the products! And we recommend doing it at night time!
Can I use the derma roller on my neck?
Hi Maya, yes you can, we recommend using the 0.75mm needles for the face and neck 🙂
Good morning
I have watched the video to use the Derma roller.
What I need to know is how to prepare my skin before and what I need to do after.
I do not have VitC.
Thank you
Hi Lucia! Before using the Derma Roller you can just your regular face cleansing routine, you should always use your Derma Roller on a freshly-cleansed face. After using it, you have to moisturize your skin, we recommend a high-quality serum. That’s because microneedling leaves open microchannels on your skin’s top two layers, making it a powerful step in maximizing the effectiveness of your skincare.
Hi do you sell replacement heads if they need replacing every 8 months?
Hi Ang! We do not sell the replacement heads on their own. We advise to replace your Derma Roller every 6-9 months 🙂
hello, can I use its on my couperose sensitive prone skin? thank you
Hi Fumiko and MarÃa!
How we must clean the Dermaroller after it is used?
Thank you!
Dear Ana Luisa, after you use the Derma Roller I would recommend cleaning it with mild soap. It is also important that BEFORE each use, you clean the device with alcohol. Hope this helps! Have a great day!
Hello Fumiko,
I am curious what % of alcohol do you recommend? 70%? 99.9%? Also is “rubbing alcohol” good to use?
I am also wondering about what Maria means with “moisturizing water” that she spritzes onto her face post derma rolling? What is that? Some vidoes out there recommend to put on a moisturizer or a hyaluronic acid serum post treatment- what is your recommendation and your own personal preference?
Thank you and kind regards,
Tara
Hi Tara,
When it comes to alcohol, I would recommend using the 70% IPA solutions, since they penetrate the cell wall more completely (and thus spread through the entire cell and are more efficient in killing the microorganisms).
About the moisturizer – anything that you find helpful in moisturizing your skin would be a good solution. I recommend using a vitamin C serum as well as a moisturizer that has hyaluronic acid. The absorption of your skin care products will be much better after you have prepped the skin by using the roller. Hope this helps! Have a great day!
Hi Fumiko, once I finished using with the derma roller and before applying the serum, should I clean my face with an antibacterial soap, or it is ok to just apply directly the serum?
Dear Laura,
After you use the Derma Roller I would recommend cleaning it with mild soap. It is also important that BEFORE each use, you clean the device with alcohol. Hope this helps!
Have a great day,
Fumiko
Thank you Fumiko. To follow up, can you tell me what is the “moisturizer spray” that Maria refers to in the video that she uses after her derma roller treatment?
Kindly,
Tara
Hey Tara,
Here’s the recipe:
– 1 cup of distilled water
– 1 sanitized colored glass container (because of the longer shelf live, and at the same time we are gentle to the nature)
– 3-5 teaspoons of vegetable glycerin
– Up to 30 drops of essential oil (you can combine Tea Tree, Jasmine, Lemongrass, Geranium, Lavender).
For longer life, you can keep in the fridge.
Best,
Fumiko
Hello, Does using this regularly lift skin from sagging because of rebuilt collagen? Does it also encourage elastin production?
Thank you.
Yes to both of these questions! It is an amazing tool to bring life back to the skin.
I have very dry skin and I do swimming. Can I use it for dry skin as long as I put moisturizer after? Do you think I can swim the day after I use it?
I am a bit concerned about chlorine after pricking my face.
Thank you.
Hi Michelle, yes we advise to refrain from activities that involve strong chemicals after derma rolling as your skin is extremely sensitive after the treatement. You will be able to learn more here: https://faceyogamethod.com/Derma-Roller-Review
I will have yet to try this on my son as he is undergoing microneedling treatment. However, it is quite costly. Hope it will achieve same effect on his acne scars. I’m glad to learn about this. Saves me a lot.
Hope this helps, Maria!
Dear Fumiko,
I am 39 and want to get rid of under eye wrinkles (I have VERY dry and thin skin). Will the Derma Roller be suitable fit for this purpose? Please let me know, so I can place my order accordingly.
Thank you! And compliments on your beauty!
Hi Corrie, since the skin under the eye is incredibly sensitive, we do not suggest using the Derma Roller on this area. Alternatively, for wrinkles and lines around the eyes, we have an exclusive Jump Start to the Eye Area for just $25! In this program, Fumiko will guide you through 28-Days worth of Face Yoga Method techniques that are aimed at reducing eye puffiness and lift up the corner of your eyes. Is it safe to put daycreme with a sun block on my face after i used the dermaroller?
I think the derma roller is an effective method to keep the skin young with the help of collagen rebuilding. It is rightfully called the poor man’s laser and does not involve any harmful chemicals either. I would love to try this product if I can get my hands on it.
Hello, I recently ordered a derma roller. The company I ordered from says not to use any product on your face that you would not eat. Hope that makes sense???? They say any needle .50mm and up reaches the bloodstream. So if your using serums or whatever on your skin before or after the roller is bad because it gets in your bloodstream. They say if your using the .25mm it safe to use any product because the needles are not long enough to get into the blood stream and does NOT stimulate collegan. What are your thoughts? And they also said you really shouldn’t use anything longer than a .50mm for the face. Again what do you think? I would’ve ordered one from you but y’all were out of stock. Btw love your videos.
Was the Organic spray one of Annmarie’s products?
Hi there, can you use it on your neck also?
Hi, are the “Dermarollers” in stock yet?
