Q&A: Autumn and Dry Weather Skin Care

The fall season is upon us! While fall represents a time of all things pumpkin spice, colorful leaves, sweater weather, and transformation, it’s also time to start thinking about fall skin care, and seasonal tips for healthy habits and hydration in preparation for the weather ahead.

Dry weather, heat, and those oh-so-cosy fireside evenings can lead to dry, flaky, red and wrinkled looking skin. But luckily, at the Face Yoga Method skin care is what we do best, and that’s why we have compiled a few of the most frequently asked questions from our Face Yogis about their Skin Care Routines, and provided seasonal skin care tips to help you keep your skin radiant, smooth, soft, and vibrant all year round.

Q: My current product dries up my skin and makes it look more wrinkled. I live in a very dry climate so that may be part of the problem. I also have very sun-damaged skin. Every product I have tried that is supposed to help wrinkles has had the opposite effect on me.

A: The climate and environment we live in can definitely affect our skin so it’s important to be mindful of this and to understand that our skin care should be adaptable for every season.

Hydrating Your Skin Internally

One of the most important skin care tricks we cannot stress enough is hydration! This year-round skin care tip counts both internally and externally. Especially for people living in dry climates we recommend ensuring your body is hydrated from the inside by drinking enough water throughout the day.

Hydrating Your Skin Topically

To hydrate the skin from the outside, we have an amazing Do It Yourself (D.I.Y) tip you can try right now with only TWO ingredients! We recommend doing this soft and supple skin treatment anytime your skin needs an extra boost! This is a tip that is sure to become more than just a fall skin care trend.

Natural Balance

We can also help our skin regain its natural moisture balance and therefore help our skin, help itself combat dryness and other skin ailments.

Q: The amount of moisturizer you suggest to use each day doesn’t seem to be enough for me. I live in the desert. Is it ok to use more?

A: At the Face Yoga Method we believe in intuitive knowing and listening to your skin. If you feel that your face and skin is asking for a bit more TLC, feel free to give it that! At the same time however, it is also important to evaluate whether your moisturizer is the right one for you and whether it’s ingredients are giving you enough hydration. Not all moisturizers and skin care products are created equal and therefore, investing in the right ones will also result in less application and better skin! Keep in mind that more than 50% of what we put on our skin goes into the body so clean ingredients are essential and highly recommended.

As we already mentioned, first and foremost, stay hydrated! The health of our insides shows up on our skin and if you are continuously experiencing dry skin consider drinking an extra glass or two of water in your day.

Blend It Yourself Face & Body Lotion

Fumiko loves to do D.I.Y projects, and has landed on one she absolutely loves: Fumiko’s D.I.Y Face And Body Cream It’s simple, effective and great for all skin types. All you need is water, aloe vera, jojoba oil, and your choice of essential oils. For dry skin, consider adding a little bit more of aloe vera into your DIY lotion.

Done For You: Superfood Moisturizer

We know that D.I.Y is not for everyone, but luckily we have formulated a product that is Light – As – Air layerability, so even if you need a few extra applications, the Whipped Oxygen Moisturizing Cream won’t weigh you down!

  • This formula is perfect for rejuvenating aging and dull looking skin.
  • It will balance your skin pigmentation resulting in brighter, smoother and hydrated skin.
  • And while you can apply it liberally, its long lasting natural ingredients wont fade off in even the driest weather.

Cleansing With Oil

Another great tip for dry season skin care, is to switch up your facial cleanser. Look for an oil-based cleanser (yes, even if you have oily skin) made without harsh sulfates.

Q: My lips always get so chapped as soon as the weather shifts colder here. What do you suggest?

A: By now you might already guess what our first recommendation is – hydration! Oftentimes the vertical lines on our lips are directly correlated with dehydration. Therefore, even in the colder months staying hydrated is important.

But even if you are staying plenty hydrated, chapped lips are a common concern for many as the weather shifts to colder days. We have just the trick: D.I.Y lip balm!

Leave it to Fumiko to experiment and find the best ingredients to create a safe, fresh and easy lip balm you can apply freely and can even apply it under the eye area! All you’ll need to create your 100% chemical-free nourishing lip balm is: jojoba oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and beeswax.

The best part of this DIY lip balm, you can give it to your little ones as well as there are no harsh chemicals or artificial ingredients.

Maintaining Allergies, Naturally

One other thing we wanted to talk about as part of our fall skin care tips is maintaining and combating seasonal allergies.

The key – local bee pollen!

Allergies happen when the body develops an immune response and the body releases histamine. Bee pollen suppresses the histamines and is great to take before you expose yourself to seasonal allergies.

Bee pollen is very high in protein, vitamins and serves as an antioxidant, making it a superfood. However, it is essential that the bee pollen is local so that you can build up immunity to what surrounds you specifically. Why not add this superfood to your fall Skin Care and overall wellness?

Incorporating allergy maintenance into your routine will not only help your allergies but will also build up your immune system as well. Plus, bee pollen can help reduce itchiness and dryness we experience on our skin and our scalp, as well as puffy eyes caused by hay fever.

Creating Your Own Fall Skin Care Routine

Now that we’ve given you insight into some of the more frequently asked questions from our Face Yogis, we hope it gives you answers and inspires you to consider your own Seasonal Skin Care Routine! It’s important to note that our skin needs different things depending on the changing seasons, as well as the climate we live in.

Don’t be afraid to experiment and try different things, as well as intuitively listen to what your skin is asking for.
