After years of diligent practice, research and hearing our Face Yoga Community’s needs, we now know that the mouth and cheek area is the most sought out area to tone, smooth out and reshape! So we’ve decided to break down these areas for you so you can maximize your Face Yoga results and be confident in your smile! 


We often group mouth and cheek exercises together because these muscles are closely connected so when you are working on one, you are also toning the other. Things such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines for example, are also a part of both the mouth and the cheek area. 

Let’s get started with your guide to the mouth and cheek area! 

THE CHEEKS

When it comes to the cheeks, we first have to acknowledge that there are two main “face types”. A bony face, and a meaty face. Likewise, preference on bony or meaty cheeks will vary. At the Face Yoga Method, we like to overdeliver. This is why we have specific Routines for each face type so that YOUR unique needs are met. 

Our cheek area is composed of more muscles than the one big muscle we often see and think of when visualizing high cheekbones. To find these muscles, you can place your hands on both sides of your cheeks, with fingers spread, and start to move your face to feel the different muscles in your cheek area. With practice, you’ll start to identify and isolate them. So, now that we’ve identified these muscles, let’s start with the exercises to tone them!

Facial Exercise to Lift up the Cheeks

The fact is, gravity is working against us and pulling our cheeks down all the time. Many have resorted to fillers in order to achieve a more defined cheek line and higher cheekbones. BUT there’s a better way…

Face Yoga however is a 100% natural alternative to cosmetic procedures and with diligent practice, you can see results in as little as two weeks, often even after a few days, naturally! 

The Cheek Lifter (with hands) is a great exercise to start with! (Tip: You can even practice this one when you go for jogs.) Whether you are the bony or meaty cheek type, lifting up the cheek is a common interest! Facial Exercise to Lose Cheek Fat

Getting rid of chubby cheeks or face fat is the next biggest concern of many of our Yogis. And yes, Face Yoga can help tone and tighten your cheeks so that you regain your confidence and feel your best. Our face, just like our body, is full of muscles, and exercising these muscles in appropriate ways will yield the results you’re seeking. 

Exercises for losing cheek fat are actually similar to uplifting the cheeks. And the best part is, you can do this exercise throughout the day as you carry on your day to day life such as cooking, driving, watching TV.

Facial Exercise For Fuller Cheeks

Face Yoga also works for creating fuller cheeks. Familiarizing yourself with different face muscles and learning to isolate them with proper technique is what brings you different results! 

Fumiko has a bony face type and prefers to practice this exercise to avoid her cheeks drooping and making her look older, and less rested. For bony face types who wish to obtain fuller, plumper cheeks, we recommend to start with this exercise:

THE MOUTH

A wonderful side-effect of exercising the Cheeks, is that our mouth area get’s a good workout in too! Since the mouth and cheek area are closely connected, many of these exercises work together. So even just a few exercises with diligent practice and proper technique will get you fast results for your mouth area too! 

When it comes to the mouth area, some of the common questions we get are:

Smile and Laugh Lines

Of course, when we laugh and smile we create these natural creases, and this is unavoidable, especially as we age and our skin loses its elasticity. 

One thing that we see all over the internet is ‘face exercise teachers’ telling you to stop smiling so big, to avoid wrinkles. 

We know that life is to be cherished, enjoyed, and want your laughter and smile to reflect that! So, instead we just recommend some daily maintenance for laugh lines which can reverse and prevent deep creases. 

We are all about regaining confidence the natural way so we’ve included one of our favorite exercises for getting rid of laugh and smile lines. 

Lip Plumper

As we age, our lips also age. They may lose firmness and the color can also fade. But did you know that your lips reflect your body’s hydration? Drinking enough water may be all you need to soften and plump your lips. 

And to take it a step further, we’d like to walk you through a Face Yoga Method exercise you can do for plump lips. The exercise below stimulates the muscles around the mouth so that they make your lips firm, smooth and plump.  

The Bumble Bee – Exercise for Plump Lips

How to: With your mouth lightly closed, vibrate your lips together while making a humming sound for 10 seconds, or longer if you can. For the best results, repeat the vibration until you feel a tingly sensation. It’s that simple. 

This will take you right back to childhood. Have fun!

We understand that sometimes starting a new practice can be intimidating. But we are here to remind you to let it be simple. Allow yourself to dedicate five to twenty minutes a day to practice just a few facial exercises that will benefit your unique needs.
