The Truth About Nose Reshaping

As we age, our body naturally changes.

You might have started to notice changes in the nose area such as the tip of the nose, or asymmetry in the nose. These changes can be very significant or subtly noticeable, but the truth is many people are concerned with the shape of their nose and would like to know how to make their nose look smaller or slim.
If you are a wondering how to make your nose look smaller without a nose job these tips are for you!

First, let’s get into the structure of the nose and how the nose can be reshaped over time.

(The best part: You CAN do it naturally!)

What’s Causing Your Nose Shape?

Regardless of your nose shape, your nose type, whether you have a big nose or small nose, nose exercises do work and you can see results without surgery!

When it comes to the question of how to make your nose look smaller, it’s important to apply the correct technique and push on the correct points of the nose in order to reshape and slim the nose. In the video below, Fumiko walks you through this process so that you can learn to apply the techniques that will work for you in obtaining the nose you want.

The techniques mentioned are also great tools in maintaining the shape of your nostrils and avoiding an asymmetrical nose or crooked nose shape. You can incorporate these lessons into your daily Face Yoga Method Practice.

The Unique Structure Of Our Nose

1. Bones

The nose is constructed of bones, muscles and cartilage. The two nasal bones can be very difficult to reshape if they are already tilted, but it can be done. The nose is also made of maxillary bones, which are important bones for nose reshaping.

2. Muscles

At the edge of your nasal bones, there are muscles. There are also muscles along the length of the edge of your nose.

3. Cartilage

Two sections of cartilage form our nose and nose shape. We have the upper and lower part of cartilage, which are the softer areas of the nose that can be moved side to side. As we age, this soft area of the nose gets longer due to gravity.

The 4 Steps To Nose Reshaping

If you have started to see changes in your face, the first step is to check your lifestyle and daily habits. The nose can change shapes and this is why it is important to take into consideration how often you touch your nose, below your nose, and even how you sleep. If you are always sleeping on one side, or always pushing on your nose the same way, for example, it’s possible you’re causing asymmetry in the nose over time.

When it comes to reshaping the nose and getting effective results, be sure to keep the 4R’s of Face Yoga in mind:

STEP #1 Release the tension

  • Tension in the muscles reduces the benefit of poses and this is why you first must release the tension
  • First, you will find out if you have any tension and notice if you have any discomfort
  • Once you release the tension, you can move on to Step 2!

STEP #2 Reshape or rebuild

After you release the tension, you will focus on reshaping or rebuilding the muscles

The first part of step 2 is to focus on the nasal bones

  • By using the side of the index fingers and following Fumiko’s technique in the video below, you can start to straighten the nasal bones
  • If your nasal bone is tilted to one side, you can apply more pressure to that side over the other
  • Good posture and correct breathing are KEY in this step

The second part of step 2 is to focus on the part next to your nostrils

  • Tune into the video to see the exact placement of fingers and knuckles on the bone next to the nostrils, alongside the nasolabial line
  • In this part, you will hold your breath for 10 seconds
  • For asymmetry, you will apply this technique to the side that you’d like to improve
  • You might already be feeling that you are breathing better as you’re opening up the nasal pathway!

STEP #3 Relax

  • You must RELAX after working the muscles
  • This step is often overlooked, but essential in getting you the results you want when it comes to nose reshaping

STEP #4 Repeat

  • Repetition yields results!
  • Even a few, but consistent, minutes you will start to see changes

While it might take time and patience to notice changes in your nose, with the nose exercises outlined in the video below, you can reshape your nose and nostrils or help to maintain the current shape of your nose.

  5. Hi Fumiko,

  8. Hello

I have an unusual nose, both my nostril holes are the same size but my nose tip is an asymmetrical. The left side of the tip is a straight line but the right side curves outwards. Would this exercise make my nose tip less round? In order to fix this asymmetry, do I close the left nostril and breathe through the right? Is it possible this would end up making my right nostril hole smaller than the left? Sorry for the long comment
    Thank you
