Top 4 Easy And Effective Face Yoga Exercises

Over my many years of teaching Face Yoga, I’ve discovered the benefit of adding a little resistance to the training. No, you don’t need to use weights or a resistance band—all you need are your hands! Here are the top 4 easy and effective Face Yoga exercises that you don’t need any equipment for!


At the Face Yoga Method we like to over deliver, while valuing simplicity. One of the beauties of the Face Yoga Method exercises is that you can practice them anywhere, anytime, no tools required! 

Many of the exercises don’t require hands-on assistance, which is what makes them so versatile and accessible. But for those ready to take their Practice to the next level, and bring more awareness into their Face Yoga Routines, we’d like to point out how using your hands for assistance can maximise your results! 

Using the fingers in your Face Yoga practice allows you to adjust the Pose in order to get the most benefits, relax certain muscles, prevent wrinkles, crow’s feet, or asymmetry, as well as ensure proper technique, and add some muscle-boosting resistance power! 

In this blog, we’ll give you examples of a couple of very easy and effective Face Yoga exercises done with hands for every area of your face.

Note: Always be sure to use clean hands for any hands-on Face Yoga Method exercises or touching your face.

The Right Way And The Wrong Way To Do Face Yoga

Using hands in your Face Yoga Practice is also beneficial for the prevention of wrinkles occuring in the first place. By using your hands for muscle isolation, you help ensure proper movement of each muscle. The hands allow you to stabilize certain muscles so that you’re not unconsciously creating creases, wrinkles and fine lines during your Routine. 

While this tip is for both beginner and advanced practitioners alike, we definitely recommend beginner Yogis to incorporate hands as tools when it comes to prevention of wrinkles, since they help isolate and identify our intricate facial muscles. 

The Forehead

In many of the Face Yoga exercises, relaxing the forehead is key. Yet, many people struggle to relax this muscle and they add creases to their forehead as they exercise other parts of their face. This is where using your hands can maximize your Practice and help prevent unwanted wrinkles. You can simply place your clean hand(s) on your forehead to help keep the forehead muscle smooth. This will also help heighten your awareness of your face and what muscles you’re using, and when. 

The Forehead Massager massages your scalp and relaxes your forehead. Follow the steps below.

  • Interlace your fingers and place them on top of your head. 
  • Applying firm pressure, move your hands back and forth 10 times, then side to side 10 times. 
  • Place your hands on your forehead. 
  • Applying firm pressure, move your hands up and down 10 times. 
  • Repeat 2 more sets.
  • Make sure to keep your shoulders relaxed.

The Eyes

The Eye Flex is a great exercise that can actually be done without hands. This is a great example of how you can use your fingers for assistance even for poses that are hands-free for added benefits and control. 

The Eye Flex strengthens the muscles around the eyes and by incorporating the fingers, you can also help prevent and reduce crow’s feet, and avoid unnecessary squinting, as you tone the eye muscles. 

Follow the below steps:

  • Place your middle and index fingers at the outer corners of your eyes. 
  • Spread your fingers slightly apart and pull at a 45 degree angle toward the back of your head until your eyes are in a squint. 
  • Gaze at a point in the distance and tighten your focus by squinting for 5 seconds. 
  • Come out and relax.
  • Repeat 2 more sets.

Mouth & Cheeks

The Yummy Face is one of the very effective Face Yoga exercises that can be done with or without hands. But by incorporating the hands, especially at the beginning of your Face Yoga Method Journey, you can ensure you are practicing properly, and training your muscles the right way. 

The Yummy Face lifts up the corners of your mouth and cheeks, which makes you look younger and happier. By using your fingers, you can evenly hold your smile throughout the exercise, and in addition, avoid asymmetry which can happen if the corners of your mouth are not at the same level. 

For the Yummy Face with Hands, follow the steps below. 

  • Smile, making sure both corners of your mouth are at the same level. 
  • Place both thumbs under your chin and lift the corners of your mouth with your index fingers. 
  • While holding this position, stick your tongue out and try to touch the tip of the nose. 
  • Slowly move your tongue to the right, pushing it out and up. 
  • Slowly move your tongue to the left for 5 seconds, then to the right for 5 seconds. 
  • Repeat 2 more sets.

Neck & Jawline

The Swan Neck is an all time favorite of many of our Face Yogis for the neck and jawline! 

But by practicing the Swan Neck with hands, you can also reduce tightness in your neck area, upper back, and shoulder area, in addition to reducing and preventing a saggy neck and double chin. That’s why we recommend incorporating the hands for this one! Taking care of our shoulders, neck and back will result in better posture and therefore better results! 

  • Interlace your fingers with your arms extended in front of you. 
  • Push your hands away from you with your palms facing inward. 
  • Separate your shoulder blades. 
  • Push them down. 
  • Move your gaze to the upper right about 45 degrees, then move your head in the same direction.
  • Pucker your mouth and move it to the right. 
  • Feel the stretch on the left front of your neck. 
  • Hold for 5 seconds. 
  • Move everything to the center. 
  • Repeat on the other side. 
  • Repeat 2 more sets.
  • Come out of the pose and smile.

  4. I wish there were face yoga classes near me that l could go to in person.
    It would be great to have someone to help make sure l am doing the exercises correctly.
    I wear very strong prescription glasses, so it is hard to read the instructions and do the exercises at the same time.
    As l am in my late sixties, l don’t retain the instructions well and have to go to and fro from the phone to the exercise.
    It would be lovely to do them with a group of women…l think it would be a jolly good laugh!
